HP’s new Jet Fusion 5420W 3D printer is geared towards producing production grade parts that are ready for end-use. In white.
Previous HP Multijet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing solutions used black nylon materials to make parts. The newest innovation from HP utilizes a refined process and new materials to make white parts, which can easily be dyed, painted or finished.
New markets and applications
Endeavor 3D was one of the first 3D printing service bureaus in the world to offer HP’s new white 3D printing solution. This new capability, along with and with our expertise and unique finishing capabilities, opens up a wide range of new markets and applications for additive manufacturing, and specifically MJF.
Does white really matter?
With the launch of its MJF 3D printing technology, HP generated a lot of excitement within the manufacturing world. But, many end-use products must be produced in white material and others must be easily finished in the color of choice.
Parts from the 5240W
HP saw an opportunity to improve the cosmetic finish of parts and delivered on it with the 5420W.
Not only do they come straight from the machine in a nice white color, they’re also easier to finish.
New white material passes the test
White parts produced with HP’s 5240W 3D printing technology have met or exceeded several biocompatibility standards for:
- Cytotoxicity
- Sensitization
- Irritation (intracutaneous)
- Acute systemic toxicity
- Pyrogenicity
White parts have also been sterilized successfully, undergoing multiple cycles of up to 30 minutes and temperatures up to 132c. Changes in dimensional and mechanical properties were minimal across many different sterilization processes, including autoclave, gamma, and e-beam.
UV resistance of white parts
Color durability is a big advantage, especially when parts are being utilized outdoors.
HP conducted a test where parts were placed in direct sunlight for up to 800 hours. During the test, color was measured at 200 hour intervals. HP parts remained white over the entire test, while competitive pas began to yellow in as little as 200 hours.
Why should you use our capabilities to make white parts?
1) You want white parts right off the machine
2) You want to dye or paint parts to achieve a bright, vibrant color
